How to Stop Discoloration of Grout Lines

Tiles and grout are two completely different materials. While tiles can be cleaned and maintained easily as they often come with surface protection finish, grout lines tend to catch stains. Sometimes, grout lines lose their color as well giving a differently attractive look for your space.

In this blog, we will talk about some of the measures you can take to avoid discoloration of grout lines on your tiled flooring or wall. Check out the following subsections –

Use a Grout Cleanser –

Grout cleansers are available at cleaning supplies and tile shops. You can use a notable brand to clean and maintain the color of grouts on your floor or wall.

Follow the directions from the manufacturer to clean grout lines.

Strip the Sealer and Wash –

If the grout lines on your tiled layout have dulled and grayed, you can proceed this way too to clean them. Just scrape the existing or old sealant from tiles and grout lines. You will need to use a blunt knife or carpenter’s spatula to remove the sealer off.

Once you have removed the sealant, collect and dispose the debris. Perform a deep clean on tile. Prepare a detergent based solution, dip an old toothbrush in it, and rub the grout lines.

Wash, rinse, and dry the tiles and grout lines well.

Do not forget to reseal the tiles and grout. This will restore the color of grout, in addition to protect it from discoloration.
