There are two types of welding you can consider for vinyl flooring – hot and cold weld. However, before we get into that, let’s understand the importance of welding vinyl floor tiles.

When You Don’t Weld, your vinyl flooring –
  • Their joints open up
  • The water infiltrates and may affect the quality of subfloor
  • Edges of tiles roll up, and
  • Dust may reach beneath the tile and on the subfloor, and cause a number of issues
Mold development is also possible because of dust and moisture on the subfloor.

The Importance of Welding Vinyl Tiles -

When you weld your vinyl tile flooring, it is called sealing the floor. Technically, vinyl tiles don’t require to be sealed. But, if you have heavy foot traffic or tiles on your floor often roll up, you can consider sealing them.

As mentioned above, there are two techniques to weld and seal vinyl tiles.

Hot or Heat Welding –


As the name may suggest, heat is used in the process to seal vinyl tiles. You will need welding wire or cord a hot air welder for the job.

Cold Welding –


There is no heat involved in this vinyl floor sealing process. You will need cold welding agent and double side tape to finish this job.
