The problem with travertine’s pores and holes is that, dirt accumulates inside those openings. Soon, it becomes a reason for staining and decay. As a solution, homeowners are advised to seal their travertine stone flooring as and when required.
Here is a stepwise guide to seal travertine floor after installation –
- Gather all the materials required. These include: floor cleaning solutions and devices, cleaning sponge, warm water, commercial-grade travertine cleanser, paint brush, grout, grout float, and stone sealant. You will also need a few clean towels and buckets.
- Clean the floor thoroughly. If possible, you can rent steam cleaning device to perform a deep clean. Make sure there is no dust or dirt on the stone and in its holes. Rinse and dry the floor well. Turn on the fan and ventilation system to let the water dry quickly. To be on the safer side, wait for at least 24 hours before moving to the next step.
- Apply the sealant using the paint brush. Apply a layer of sealant all over the floor. Don’t walk on the freshly applied sealant. Let the coating of sealant dry.
- Once the first layer of sealant has dried, it is time to grout the floor. Remove excess grout with the help of towel or sponge. Wait for the grout to cure. Remove the grout haze too.
- Now you are ready to apply the second layer of sealant. Repeat the 3rd step and this time, cover the grout too.
